Breeding and delivery of Teckel in Alicante
Alicante and the Dachshund share a character: direct, bold and uncomplicated. From our breeder in Denia you arrive in 1 hour via the AP-7 (~91 km), with access to Playa de San Juan, El Campello and La Vila Joiosa. We breed the miniature variety (4–6 kg), ideal for Alicante families looking for a dog with a strong personality but manageable size. The Dachshund is a natural tracker — coastal walks in San Juan, with their sea scents, keep it stimulated and happy.
The dry Mediterranean climate of Alicante is a genuine advantage for the Dachshund: low humidity is better for its joints and elongated back than humid climates. Its short coat needs no grooming — a weekly brush is enough. In Alicante city centre, with walks along the Explanada de España and moderate climbs to the Castillo de Santa Bárbara (take it easy on the back), the Dachshund has varied activity. It works well in a city flat if given daily exercise — it is more active than other small breeds, but 45 minutes a day is enough.

Your questions answered
Teckel in Alicante: frequently asked questions
- Can the Dachshund handle long walks along Playa de San Juan?
- Yes, it loves them. The Miniature Dachshund (4–6 kg) has more stamina than its size suggests — walks of 3–4 km along the San Juan or El Campello seafront promenade are enjoyed without trouble. Avoid peak heat hours in summer and bring water. The promenade surface is cooler than sand at midday.
- Is the Dachshund suitable for a flat in Alicante city centre?
- Yes, with one condition: daily exercise. The Miniature Dachshund fits in city-centre flats without trouble, but it needs at least 2–3 daily walks to burn its hunting-breed energy. Give it that and it is calm and clean at home. Without exercise it can get bored and bark or scratch furniture. The key is routine.
- Is the Dachshund a good dog for active elderly people?
- Very good, if the person is active. The Miniature Dachshund weighs 4–6 kg and does not pull excessively on the lead when trained. Its short but frequent walks along the Explanada or El Campello are good exercise for both. It is loyal, protective and very affectionate — an outstanding companion for people who walk daily.
- How does the Dachshund behave with other small dogs in Alicante?
- It depends on socialisation. The Dachshund has a strong character and can be dominant if not socialised from puppyhood with other dogs. In dog parks in San Juan or El Campello, introduce it to other dogs gradually. Once socialised, it coexists without problems — but it is never a submissive dog. Its boldness is part of its charm.
